It's been too long since the premier of both seasons of GALAVANT , but for those you have yet to enjoy this epic medieval tale (available for free on HULU), here is a list of the best non-musical moments of the show for devoted fans, and those who need more convincing. Don't worry - a list of best musical moments is soon to come!
Summary: What happens when a fair maiden chooses the evil king over the valiant knight? Galavant takes many of the classic tropes of a medieval adventure and flips them on their heads, including pirates who are stranded far from the sea, dwarves and giants who are about the same height, and a princess forced to marry her cousin...her 11-year-old cousin.
Before we get into the list, if you have not yet watches Galavant and want a better idea what this show is about, I highly recommend this short video by Jenny Cook.
(Warning: Contains Spoilers for both season 1 and 2)
Galvant Would Not Stand For This!

In most stories, the kidnapped maiden cowers before the evil king. This is not the case for Madalena and Richard. The royal life unleashes a darker side of Madalena - who came from a difficult life that forced her to swallow her feelings and take every opportunity for power.

Clever Madalena realizes how easy it is to manipulate Richard into doing what she wants, from invading Valencia for its priceless jewel, to respecting her vow of chastity (that only applies to Richard). Their dynamic reveals that Richard is simply a spoiled child use to getting what he wants, but what he truly wants to for people to love him for who he is.

The Joust

After agreeing to help Princess Isabella save her kingdom from Richard, Galavant enters a joust. Isabella uses the opportunity to coach him back into 'hero-shape' and take down an old rival, Jean Hamm, who's greatest comeback is 14th century 'your mamma' jokes.

Isabella trains Galavant and even poisons his rival to ensure victory. They train so intensely, the next morning Galavant cannot raise his arms more than a couple of inches. (Remember to stretch, kids!)

Galavant's inability to move and Jean Hamm's alcohol poisoning creates the most underwhelming joust match ever, which ends with both knights on the ground and their horses meandering off. The referee declares "The first one to his feet is the winner!" which Galavant earns by a narrow margin.

Eunich.

What Richards craves more than anything is the respect and love from his people. He doesn't understand that torture, murder, and genocidal wars are not the way to earn it. To get the kingdom of Valencia to love him again, Richard tries to get them to have fun - even encouraging them to take a free shot at Eunich. The court forms a single-file line to knee him in the groin.
Richard then gets the idea to throw a ball, forcing the court to dance to the only music available provided by the Executioner. He realizes no one is having genuine fun, and instead invites the court to roast him. Poor Eunich takes the roast a step to far when he calls Richard an idiot for not noticing Madalena has been sleeping with the Jester. Richard orders Gareth to kill Eunich. At least the Executioner was handy to go to work.

Bendy Sword

Instead of killing the Jester for sleeping with his wife, Richard believes if he can learn to be funny, he can woo Madalena. If that doesn't work...then he'll kill the Jester. Unfortunately, not only does Richard not have a sense of humor, his humor often involves bodily harm.
Falsely believing he has become a masterful comedian, Richard preforms a set before the court and a very annoyed Madalena. The only thing that manages to get a laugh out of her is throwing a pie into Gareth's face.
Though Richard's plan fails, he does not kill the Jester. But when Madalena approaches him to...um...'bang out' some jokes, the Jester confesses he does not want to do this anymore, having lived through enough near-death experiences. With no more use for him, Madalena sends him to the dungeons. The scary one. With the mice.
The Pirates
The further Gal, his squire Sid, and Princess Isabella travel together, the more they drive each other crazy. Who can relate?
Isabella warns Galavant about bandits along the road they're traveling, which Galavant brushes off, simply saying: I am Galavant. Soon after, they are caught by pirates.

But what are pirates doing so far from the sea? Their ship got caught on a hill as they traveled upriver, and since then they have been unable to work together to get it un-stuck. They steal Isabella's jewel of Valencia, along with her "girl's supplies", and hold the three hostage. After talking with the Pirate King, Galavant breaks free of his bindings and returns to camp to free the others - only to find Isabell and Sid had taken out the whole camp by working together.
Their teamwork inspires the pirates to unstick their ship, and as payment, the pirates take them the rest of the way to Valencia.

Bonding Over Betrayal
At the castle, Galavant discovers Richard's trap, but Richard's older brother throws a wrench in his revenge plot by challenging him to a fight to the death. Of course - fight to the death for royalty, meaning they each chose a champion to fight for them while they sit and watch from a safe distance away. In typical big-brother fashion, Richard's brother picks Gareth to be his champion, leaving Richard no one to fight for him. Galavant sees an oppertunity to free Valencia, volunteering to be Richard's champion on the condition that he free's the kingdom when he wins.
The night before the fight, Richard and Gal form an unlikely friendship, bonding over the one thing they have in common - getting screwed over by Madalena. Galavant even reaveals some personal secrets - like her insecurity over her feet.

The two plot to kill Richard's brother, but the plan falls through after a night of drunken escapades in the castle wind them up in the dungeon.
You Never Gave Me the F***ing Amulet!
In the beginning of the second season, it is Isabella's turn to be forced to marry...her 11-year-old cousin. Disturbing, but points for historical accuracy!
Plotting to run away, Isabella asks Chef to take care of her amulet while reminiscing about her last moment with Galavant and the kiss they shared, eventually falling asleep. When she wakes, she realizes Chef is still standing in her room.

How non-confrontational are you? It's probably not as bad as Chef standing all night by Isabella's bed waiting for her to hand him the amulet she asked him to take. The fully scene is available below.
I super-believe in you, Tad Cooper!
In the second season, Galavant and Richard try to recruit an army to rescue Isabella from marrying her cousin. This proves difficult with Richard messing up their plans. Eager to redeem previous mistakes, Richard trades their only currency for a dragon - with a striking resemblance to a bearded dragon.

A big fight ensures between Gal and Richard, only resolved when Richard's childhood friend Roberta reminds Gal that Richard was the only man who has so far joined his army. With no proof of fire-breathing, or any of his friends believing him, Richard never gives up hope that Tad Cooper really is a dragon throughout the season.

The Evil Sorceror/Wedding Planner

Having 2 jobs is difficult enough. Imagine balancing the work of a royal wedding planer with an evil plot to overthrow a kingdom. If anyone can do it, it's Mr. Wormwood...most of the time.
Isabella's parents hire Wormwood to plan the wedding, and grow to regret it when he controls her mind and throws them in the dungeon. Luckily, Wormwood's mind-controlling crown is knocked off Isabella's head, and is ready to throw some Ultimate Girl-Boss in his face.

Mr. Wormwood angrily storms out of the palace, threatening to return and take Hortensia while also reminding Isabella to tip the wedding caterers since they worked so hard. Thanks to a trip through the Forest of Coincidence, Wormwood and his assistant arrive in Valencia and meet Madalena with an offer of unprovoked war - the perfect birthday present to Gareth.
Constantly mixing up his evil plans with wedding plans, sending a Save-The-Date invitation to Hortensia was a mistake waiting to happen.
The Unicorn
Richard is delighted to find a unicorn while passing though a village. At first, he adorns the creature and asks the owner how one tells a real unicorn from a fake. The answer - real unicorns are attracted to those pure of heart. Aka - virgins. A self-conscious Richard immediately retracts from the horse, but the unicorn is determined to stick with him, making several appearances.

When the unicorn still won't leave Richard alone, he grabs a nearby sword stuck in a stump and threatens to turn the unicorn into a 'none-icorn".
A few epsidoes later, Sid reunites with Galavant and throws him his sword, which Galavant catches it with his chest. Richard, Sid, and Roberta rush Galavant to the nearest healer - Neo of Sporin. Neo has a potion that can bring Galavant back from the dead, but it requies a gray hair from a middle-ages man untouched by a woman. Richard may have left Galavant dead if the unicorn hadn't reappeared.
This scene also features a hilarious nod to The Princess Bride, when Sid asks Neo if there's anyway to revive a dead Galavant.

I Love You...Soliders!
After putting aside their differences, a surprising romance sparks between Madalena and Gareth. While Gareth is entranced by experiencing love for the first time, Madalena does not walk to talk about her feelings...with him. Gareth finds a compromise by confessing his feelings to the soldiers of Valencia. Public, but effective.
Ironicaly, two of the most violent, brutal people of the series make the sweetest couple. We will never forgive the show being cancelled before they got their happily ever after.
Army of Zombies
Luckily for Galavant and the crew, Neo of Sporin happened to have a spare army lying around - an army of zombies he is anxious to get rid of.
Neo: "They're yours. If you want them...please take them, they freak me out."

Despite being undead, zombies don't make the best soldiers. As the army marches, the zombies are less-than-coordinated, bumping into trees and groaning loudly. That is until Galavant discoves the one thing they can all rally behind...love.
Too-Eager Madalena

Madalena is too eager to learn evil magic from Mr. Wormwood. When she approaches him to receive her first lesson, she is shocked to see he has a baby and knife in his hands. She overcomes her initial hesitation (a little too quickly) and prepares to take the baby. Wormwood stops her, explaining he is just baby-sitting.
He then hands her the knife and prepares a contract for her to sign. Madelana cuts open her palm, ready to sign in blood. Turns out, Wormwood had a quill and ink ready. Dispite two dark's in it's name, the Dark Dark Evil Way isn't as dark as Madelana's thinks.
Once they prepae to start the lesson, Wormwood asks Madelana to step away from the baby. Her eagerness earlier worried him a bit.

Richard Ruins the Moment
Gal and Isabella reunite during the final-episode battle. Trapped by the zombie army, Gal tells Isabella after today he'll never leave her side again. They are overheard by the rest of the armies, including Richard and Isabella's parents.
Richard: Oooh, someone's daughter is getting some whoop-whoop tonight.
Isabella's Dad: What the hell is wrong with you?
Richard: Honestly, I have no idea.
I Had No Idea I Was Going That Fast!
In love with Richard, and unwilling to see him die in battle, Roberta leaves for the island of Spinster to live alone with a cat (they give them away for free at the dock). After Richard survives the battle, he races on his horse to stop Roberta from leaving.

I'm not sure what medieval speed-limits were, or exactly how fast Richard's horse was going, but it was enough to get him pulled-over. Based on his reaction, there was a hefty fine on the ticket, too.
RIchard and Roberta reunite on the dock infront of the other Spinster travelers. At first, they watch the couple with adoration, but quickly get annoyed by the amount of PDA.
Watch Galavant on Hulu for these greatest moments and many more!
